Up for sale in the Houston showroom is the original micro car, the 1957 Hudson "Nash" Metropolitan. The Nash Metropolitan is an automobile that was sold from 1953 to 1961. It conforms to two classes of vehicle: economy car and subcompact car. In today's terminology the Metropolitan would be called a subcompact; but this category had not yet come into use when the car was made. At that time, it was variously categorized as a "small automobile", or as an "economy car". The Metropolitan was also sold as a Hudson when Nash and Hudson merged in 1954 to form the American Motors Corporation (AMC); and later, as a standalone marque during the Rambler years, which it was known as when sold in the United Kingdom and other markets. Approximately 95,000 Metropolitans were sold in the United States and Canada, making it one of the top-selling cars to be imported into those countries at the time, and its sales in 1959 helped to spur the introduction of the Big Three's (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) new compact models. Powered by a 55hp 1500cc engine and backed by a 3-speed manual transmission you could say, she is pretty spry. Options include: Vinyl seats, seat belts, numbers matching, cassette and AM/FM Radio.
