Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this very sharp black-over-silver 2006 Chevrolet SSR. When it was conceived, Chevrolet went with a retro design for the Super Sport Roadster. They styled the vehicle like a truck from the 1950s with their unmistakable rounded hoods and bulging fenders. Its body-on-frame architecture comes courtesy of the GMT370 (TrailBlazer/Envoy XL) hydroformed-steel platform, which is shortened 13 inches yet retains its stock width and track. Related hardware includes a live axle out back, independent suspension up front, and four-wheel disc brakes. The steel body panels are all new and pay obvious homage to the highly sought late-'40s/ early-'50s Chevy pickups.

Although SSR was styled to cause one to reminisce about the lines of the 1947-1955 Chevrolet pickups, one thing a truck from the 1950s would never have thought conceivable is the beautifully engineered power folding metal top. With the touch of a button you can go from hard top to no top in just a few seconds. Another option that wasn't available in the 1950s is the potent fuel injected LS2 V8 under the hood, which Chevy borrowed from the Corvette and stuffed into this little sleeper truck. The stock LS2 in the 2006 SSR is an all-aluminum 6.0-liter unit, which is host to 395 "ready to stampede" horses and is backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission. The exterior of this one is coated in a very good looking black over silver two-tone finish, while the interior offers black leather. With just 40,225 miles, this SSR still smells new. This two-tone beauty must be driven to fully appreciate how much effort Chevy put into making a truly unique factory hot rod.

Options include: AC, power top, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, remote entry, AM/FM/CD, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and passenger/driver airbag. If you crave power, smoothness, and dandy exhaust-pipe music, it's hard to beat a GM Gen-III V-8. Chevy claims 0-60 times in the mid-seven-second range, confirmed by an informal stopwatch; top speed is electronically limited to 125 mph (also confirmed). This SSR is a combination of sorts, a modern classic sports car and stylish truck with a drop top. As unique as this car is, we feel as if it makes for a great investment.
