Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is excited to offer this beautifully restored 1965 Mustang K-code 4-speed convertible for sale. This Pony represents the trifecta of early pony-car desirability by combining its convertible body style with the K-code 289 High Performance V-8 engine, 4-speed manual, and image-rich GT Equipment Group. The car is equipped with the K-code's requisite 4-speed manual transmission and the optional Dcor Interior Group, better known as the "Pony" interior for its embossed running horses in the seat upholstery. Restored by Performance Motors, this Vintage Burgundy convertible is an accurate representation of a showroom 1965 Mustang, right down to what appears to be the K-code 289 CID Hi-Po V-8 engine that it left the San Jose manufacturing line in May of 1965 with. Even its FoMoCo seat belts are dated January 1965. A two-time National First Prize award winner from the Antique Automobile Club of America, this Mustang is also nicely optioned with an AM/FM radio, Rally-Pac clock and tachometer, floor console, Prismatic day/night rearview mirror, remote-control outside mirror, power convertible top and styled steel wheels. Concours detailed with 1965-specific black paint and chrome valve covers, the 289 Hi-Po engine was rated by Ford at 271 HP thanks to a solid-lifter cam, 4-barrel carburetor, open-element air cleaner, dual-point distributor and high-flow exhaust manifolds. The GT package adds the Special Handling Package, front disc brakes, quicker-ratio steering, rocker-panel stripes, fog lights and trumpet exhaust tips; meanwhile, the white Pony interior supplies uniquely shaped seat cushions, wood-grain trim, molded door panels and a 3-spoke wood steering wheel. The white GT side stripe matches the soft white top, boot and interior, bringing everything together nicely. With both the GT and Pony options, the 1965 Mustang's Falcon-style instrument cluster was replaced with a new five-dial panel. As listed in the K-Code Registry, this 1965 convertible is a factory Hi-Po car that is loaded with extras. Contact our Houston Showroom today!
