Up for sale in our Houston showroom is a 1946 Ford Super De Luxe Coupe. The Ford Motor Company offered the Coupe as their full-size class from 1941 until 1948. Ford halted its car and truck lines on February 10, 1942 to begin war production. Ford cars produced from March 1942 all the way through the summer of 1945 were built for the purpose of serving as military staff cars. In July of 1945 Ford picked up where it left off reproducing civilian cars, though a few changes did happen with the new model year, for instance, the new grille featured horizontal bars and the hood was widened by adding a center strip. The "ignition key" for these cars was actually used to operate a bolt lock which, on one end, unlocked the steering column and on the other end unblocked the ignition switch, allowing it to be operated. Starting the car was then accomplished by pressing a pushbutton on the dashboard, another feature destined to return with the advent of "smart keys." This beauty features a 239 C.I.D Flathead V8 under the hood and a 3 speed manual transmission known as “3 on the treeâ€. The Red paint and Grey is what really reminds you this Coupe is a classic and a beautiful classic at that. In the film Back to the Future, Biff Tannen's car in 1955 was a black 1946 Ford Super De Luxe convertible. The options on this 1946 Ford include: am radio, cloth interior, hub caps, bias ply tires and numbers matching engine/transmission. This gorgeous 1946 Ford Super De Luxe 2 door Coupe up for sale can be viewed along with more HD pictures and video at www.GatewayClassicCars.com.
