1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am

Up for sale in our Houston showroom is this 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The third generation Pontiac Firebird was introduced in late 1981 by Pontiac alongside its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro for the 1982 model year. These were also the first Firebirds with factory fuel injection, four-speed automatic transmissions, five-speed manual transmissions, four-cylinder engines, 16-inch wheels, and hatchback bodies. The excitement began 15 years ago when those electrifying “birds” came down like a rolling thunder to capture the hears of enthusiasts everywhere, then a legend was born. The Trans Am is a brilliant orchestration of aerodynamic function. With its .31 drag coefficient it was the best of any production car at the time. The T/A was labeled as a pure driver’s car that was engineered for serious roadwork! A modified black 1982 Firebird Trans Am appeared in the new for 1982 television series Knight Rider as KITT, voiced by William Daniels. For the reunion movie Knight Rider 2000, KITT underwent a makeover and became the "Knight Industries 4000”.

Powering this baby down the road is the largest engine you could get in the car at the time which is the LU5 5.0L V8. The new high-performance "Crossfire Fuel Injection" 5.0L V8, which employed a twin throttle body fuel injection system similar to that used in the 1982 Corvette's "Crossfire" 5.7L, and produced 165 hp. The small block is coupled to a TH-200c automatic 3-speed transmission that shifts smoothly throughout the gears. The exterior of the car is in great shape with the gloss black paint finish looking as good as it did in 82. The decals & trim are free from any major tears and scratches. Looking at the interior you will find the cloth Recaro seats that are in good condition with only the typical tear on the driver seat on the left side. The dash, carpet, headliner, & the remaining interior are all in superb condition. The T/A sits on its original wheels wrapped in radial tires.
