Now for sale in our Houston showroom is this 1974 Volkswagen Thing (Type 181). The Volkswagen Type 181 is a two-wheel drive, four-door, convertible, manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 1968 to 1983. The U.S. version was called the “Thing” while in Germany it is called a Kurierwagen, in the UK it is known as the “Trekker”, in the South America it is called the “Safari”. While it is called many things around the globe, it is unmistakably known by all VW enthusiasts & fans of the manufacturer. This Thing is shown in is believed to be its original yellow paint that is a good driver’s paint job that is free from any major scratches or dings. The body is straight & true with all doors lining up correctly, open & close properly. The removeable top has been replaced within the last 10 years and looks like new, free from any tears or holes. It sits on its original VW color matched wheels with polished VW center caps that are wrapped in tires that have plenty of tread on them. The exterior lenses, bumpers, trim, & emblems are in good condition. Looking towards the interior you will see the yellow paint continues, the car came to us with seat covers but the seats underneath are in good condition. It has room to fit 4 adults comfortably with lots of leg room. You can see the wood floor mats in the car that were a highly sought after option. Behind the rear seat is extra room for storage for a cooler down the beach or your passengers bags. Powering this cool ride down the road is a 1776cc 4-cylinder engine that was professionally rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. When it was rebuilt a mild race camshaft was installed, new dual carburetors, a custom through bumper exhaust, & a new electronic ignition. That motor is paired to a 4-speed manual transmission that shifts very smoothly giving this car a very nice driving experience. The brakes have been serviced & refurbished in the last few years, they work very well. The CV joints on this car have been replaced, that is a very common issue on these cars. Other additional items on the car include, a new speedo & a new Bluetooth radio with 4 new speakers in the cab that sound great. The car looks cool and you can’t find many of these on the roads today in this condition. It can be yours if you call us today! Features on this car are windshield wipers, Bluetooth radio, removable soft top, vinyl interior seats, tachometer mounted onto the dash, & more. The car comes with receipts from the original owner, a tow bar to take it anywhere with you, spare tire, many extra parts to go with the car. This car came from a family who enjoyed it for more than 15 years but no longer have room for it. It is a very solid car and rust free.
