Under the hood of this classic is a 292-cubic inch V8, the only available engine for 1955. Other equipment includes power steering, power brakes, automatic convertible top, and wide white wall radial tires.
In 1955 Ford introduced the Thunderbird to knock a dent into Corvette sales. Ford accomplished this with flying colors. 1955 Corvette production reached 700 units compared to Ford's whopping 16,155! Chevrolet needed some serious help if they were going to save the Corvette. Eventually, Ford decided to lean more towards the luxury side and away from the performance side that the Corvette was pursuing. The Thunderbird has had a long and interesting run over the years. However, there's no mistaking the first run of the 1955 through 1957 T-Birds. They are the most collectible of any Thunderbird and will always be the most collectible. These hard and soft top equipped Thunderbirds are very cool, giving you the coupe and convertible feel all in one car.
