Borrowed from the Monte Carlo many enthusiasts today think the front and rear end of the 71 is most desirable of the round body Chevelles. Ofcourse as with all the muscle cars of that era the HP war was over as quick as it began and the most powerful motor available was a 365 HP LS5 which was ok but nothing compared to the previous year's monster LS6. With the 71's not having the power many of the custom car world took them and put more modern powerful motors as well as handling components starting a whole new class called pro touring. This 71 Chevelle is a great example of what pro touring is all about. Start with the motor, though it is not fuel injected it is a built 355 small block with hydraulic cam. With it being a full on roller motor not only the longevity but the reliability is far superior as well. With Keith black Pistons connected by Eagle rods to a Eagle crank there is nothing but high dollar parts in this motor. Giving the motor a perfect balance of horsepower and efficiency the ported and polished Vortec heads are the perfect match. Hooked up to a smooth shifting TH350 it is able to cruise nicely down the road. The 10 Bolt rear end with 3.73 gears give you the perfect balance of highway economy and off the line performance. The Eaton locker is sure to give you the best smokiest burn outs with both wheels spinning at full steam. The front end has all been redone using nothing but Hotchkis parts. The addition of anti sway bars upfront gives it a much more solid feel behind the wheel. Ofcourse the staggered wheels with their much lower profile tire aid in the handling department as well. Just so you don’t go into those corners too fast a huge set of Disc brakes were added upfront giving it a much needed boost in stopping power. Finished off with the classic black vinyl interior the split bench reminds you what a true 6 seater car was.
