Still powered by the original 235 Inline 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed manual transmission on the column which gets very good gas mileage for a large car. The Chevrolet Impala was introduced in 1958 and redesigned to a "wilder" body style in 1959. The new look for 1960 suited the glamorous top of the line Impala, as Chevrolet reshaped and separated the "bat wing" tail fins, and added 3 round tailamps to the rear. Additional features included a short molding strip extending back from the headlights, twin pairs of bar molding above and below the fender strip, the quarter panel missile ornaments had 2 moldings streaking rearward, and the area between them was filled with an opposing color insert and Impala script. The 1960 Chevrolet Impala also became the best-selling automobile in the US, and continued to hold that position for the next decade.
