This 1966 Pontiac GTO 242 car is available for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. The GTO is widely considered to be the one that started the whole muscle car craze. The name, which was inspired by the classic Ferrari 250 GTO, made people stand up and listen. The funny part though is it really did not have anything to do with Ferrari it actually stands for The Grand Tempest Option. Regardless one thing was certain the automobile world was about to be turned inside out. 64 and 65 were both successful years but 66 was when things really began to pick up. Given its own model number, the coveted 242, the GTO was really its own car now and not just an option. This real deal 242 GTO has been meticulously maintained and it shows. The car was an original white car which is rare all to it but add to that it was a post car and the numbers dwindle even lower. With only a total of 10,000 2 door post GTO's being produced that year this is definitely a rare find. The original numbers matching motor is still under the hood which always a good thing from a collectors stand point but it gets better. Not only is it the block but it’s the original heads, carb, ignition I mean you name it and it's correct to the car. Even the power steering pump and brakes are the ones that came on it. Ofcourse with the car having less than 85000 miles on it these things should be in great condition and they are. The 2 speed transmission is original to the car and is definitely the first one I have seen in a GTO. Controlled by the shifter located on the column and the rarity of this GTO keeps growing. The red interior looks great especially sitting inside the white body but the period correct redline tires really bring it all together. With PHS certification to prove everything is how it should be this 66 GOAT is one that should go in any hardcore Pontiac collector's garage.
