The name was revived as Ferrari won the Formula 1 World Championships in 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1979. Conceived as a 'practical' Ferrari, the Mondial is a genuine long-distance four-seater, with sufficient rear head- and leg-room for children and smaller adults. It affords easy access via the long single doors, and has surprisingly good all-round visibility for a mid-engined car. The vehicle has a slightly higher roofline and greater all-round dimensions compared to its two-seater stable mates, resulting in a comparative weight penalty of around ten percent. The Mondial cabriolets are the only production vehicles manufactured to a four-seater, rear mid-engined, full-convertible design. A few fun facts about this Ferrari. The 1st owner of this Ferrari was none other than Robert Mondavi, a well renown wine maker of the Napa Wine valley in California. Mr Mondavi past away and the Ferrari made its way to a collector who resided in the Napa Valley. From there it eventually made its way to Lexington Kentucky where the finest racing Thoroughbred horses are raised and trained. The Mondial uses the same 3.4 liter V8 as the Ferrari 348 and produces 300 horsepower. This Mondial is only 1 of approximately 20 to be imported to America with the Valeo electronic clutch transmission. A bit of a hybrid, the driver still switches gears manually, but without the aid of a clutch pedal. This transmission was developed for road rally racing in Europe and was quite successful. The “T” references the layout of the engine and transmission, which results in a T configuration. This design layout was also used by the Ferrari Formula One cars of 80’s.
