Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this 1966 Pontiac GTO! In 1963 Pontiac unveiled a car that would shake the market to extent that it would be felt for years. Why? Because the GTO is touted as being the first real muscle car to come into existence and thus responsible for starting the muscle car wars that would lead into the 1970s! Now you can have the car that started it all! Here you have a 1966 GTO Hardtop Coupe. The vin confirms 24217 code meaning GTO 2-door Hardtop. This is one of the cleanest GTO's we've seen in a while. The color appears correct in Montero Red and really stands out. Black vinyl top and black vinyl interior complement each other and creates a nice balance in the color tones. Something about the wooden steering wheel that just feels right in your grip.
Under the hood is a 389ci Tri-Power V-8. What that means is there are 3 carburetors sitting on top the engine. Not the original 389 but appears era correct. Power is ran down through a 2-speed automatic transmission. This GTO is registered by the Pontiac Historic Society and all PHS documents go with the car. Also included is a window sticker, a salesmen's data manual, owner's manual, GTO floor mats and many photos of the extensive rebuild this GTO was subjected to!
Within the last year or so the current owner has replaced the rear springs, rear wheel brake cylinders and starter. Also, to note this car has air shocks in the rear and a 4-core high efficiency radiator. Current owner has had her for over 5 years, acquired from a private owner in Florida. Odometer shows 19k miles, the title states actual original miles. The owner and Gateway Classics at this time are not claiming it to be so without further documentation. The title is clean and clear and ready to be transferred into your name now! Whether you are an avid collector or just starting out, having the car that started the muscle car movement is simply a must!
