Although it appeared it was a lot smaller than the 8th generation that was not the point. It was all about the concept that Ford was striving for; aerodynamics. The Thunderbird would be a success but not quite overnight. Not until 1987 did the model get to what you see here due to cosmetic refresh and is highly sought after due to a inclusion of an intercooler that boosted the horsepower dramatically over the previous model. The turbo coupe would be Ford's top of the line model with its revolutionary turbocharged SOHC 2300 inline 4. Race proven by the now legendary Merkur rally car this engine is very sought after in today's market. This '87 model is in a rarely seen Dark Shadow Blue. Paint looks great, the metallic in the paint really sets it off. The blue cloth interior is in great shape and very comfortable. All this is understandable with only having 41k miles elapsed on the odometer! Under the hood is the famous 2.3L Turbo mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that shifts so smooth. Really a pleasure to drive. It should be stated there is a reason this car won Motor Trend's Car of the Year in 1987, very high honor!
