For sale in our Louisville showroom is this 1990 Chevrolet C1500 454 SS Pickup Truck. In 1990, Chevrolet introduced the first high-performance racing focused truck of the big three automakers a high-performance variant of the GMT400 under the SS emblem called the 454SS. It was available only as a 2WD half-ton regular cab short box in Onyx Black only with a garnet red interior. The 454SS was powered by a 454 cu in V-8 producing 230 hp and 385 lb•ft. A 3-speed automatic transmission, a.k.a. Turbo Hydra-Matic 400, and 3.73 rear axle ratio added to the truck's performance. In it original condition, this truck was a solid performer, but would soon be overshadowed by its rival competitor, the Ford F150 Lightning. Due to its better fuel economy, and lower base price, the Lightning was considered the better bang for the buck. If you’re worried about fuel economy, then this is not the truck for you! There were big plans to race this truck, but life got in the way. Some of the changes occurred before the decision was made to go in another direction. The original 454 engine has been replaced with a factory 454 crate engine that has less than 1000 miles on it. The fuel injection has been replaced with a tried and true Demon 750 carburetor. An aluminum water pump and aluminum pulleys have been added for weight reduction. The exhaust now exits the engine through a set Hooker Headers that are connected to a set Magna Flow Stainless Steel Exhaust. The factory rear end has been replaced with a stronger Dana 60 unit that houses Moser 40 spline axles, a full spool and 3.55 gears. A set of Caltrac traction bars have been added to help plant the rear end to the ground , when spirited acceleration is desired. The brake system has also been changed to a Wilwood manual brake system. The fuel tank has been replaced with a 20 gallon fuel cell that is tucked away in the bed of the truck. In case you need to stay cool while going fast, the AC system is new and works great! The Garnet Red interior of the truck has been untouched and still looks new!
