Instead of going through the hassle of designing new cars which require new molds casted, automakers simply dusted off the 42 molds and went to work. They figured that not many of them were sold anyways and the demand would be so great why not just use what they had. It paid off and sales were better than even they had anticipated. Convertibles were especially hot, with the care free attitude and the mood of the nation, they just kind of fit. This 46 is a great example of the classic styling but with all of the modern amenities that you would want in today's cars.
