This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Hardtop is located in our Louisville KY showroom. The totally restyled Galaxies were much sleeker in 64. The NASCAR inspired hardtop model was an instant hit with its low slung roofline it not only looked great but proved to be very aerodynamic as well. Though the main attraction that year was the introduction of the Mustang there was plenty of other reasons to get excited at the blue oval. With an emphasis on performance you could choose a number of different power plants for all of their cars. This 64 hardtop came from the factory with Ford's monster 390 4 barrel which is what lies under the hood now. With the restoration receipts totaling about 28000 there was not a penny spared on this beauty. The motor runs great and looks as if it just rolled off the line. The transmission is the classic Cruise-O-Matic 3 speed that shifts nice and smooth. The rear end has a set of 3.25 gears giving you decent acceleration but can actually cruise down the highway with the motor turning somewhere between 23 and 25 hundred RPM. The body on this 64 is as straight as they come with a period correct Samoan Coral paint accented by the Wimbledon white roof the outside of this Galaxie is the 60's at their best. With the cars bright work all being either replaced or refinished the gleam off this Galaxie will almost blind you when in the sunlight. Open the door and you will find an interior that has been put back to its original glory. The front bench seat has been covered in period correct black vinyl that looks great against the coral exterior. Jump behind the wheel and you'll notice all of the gauges not only look great but actually work.
