The Cadillac Sixty Special name has been used to denote a special model since the Harley Earl-Bill Mitchell designed 1938 version. This was the predecessor to the venerable Fleetwood Brougham. 1941 was the last production year for this original design and most consider it the most beautiful car of the series. For the first time, Cadillac had its own front-end design – the “Tombstone†grill with a high center section flanked by lower side sections. This 1941 gray ghost is an all original numbers-matching rare find. There were only 185 produced with the factory sun roof option. That’s right 185. Called the “Sunshine Turret Top Roofâ€, first appeared in 1939 and is operated by a hand crank. Power is supplied by the original 346 cid V-8 rated at 150 hp mated to a 3-Speed Automatic transmission. Built on a 127-inch wheelbase and new “X†frame underneath, these cars offered true 6 passenger comfort and were designed to be truly driven by the owner vs. chauffeured. To look at the gorgeous woodwork and gauges in this car is to appreciate the hand-crafted elegance from another era. The 1941 Cadillac Sixty Special is located in our Milwaukee showroom.
