The 1980s ushered in a environmentally conscious era in automotive manufacturing with more restrictive catalytic converters, smog pumps, decreased compression ratings, and more restrictive exhaust designs. The bodies of the cars generally got smaller proportionately with the decreased power ratings, and this helped mark the end of the era of muscle cars. The Malibu came about with a smaller 305 cubic inch V8 which only offered 140 horsepower, but this car has been customized by adding a 350 cubic inch LS1 V8 which is found in Corvettes and Camaros in the early 2000s years. This upgrades the horsepower ratings closer to the 340 mark. The LS1 is paired to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive, which in its day was a great smooth shifting more modern take on replacing the 700R4. The drivetrain is capped off with a Posi rear end featuring a 2:73 gear ratio making for calm cruising at highway speeds. The Malibu is coated in a metallic brown paint that shows beautifully with its glossy finish and is well set off with custom pin-striping. The interior contrasts nicely against the outside as it is a tan color of which the front seats are racing bucket seats. This Malibu is a blast from the past with modern drivetrain technology and is ready for a cruise through town or across the country!
