Gateway Classic Cars of Indianapolis is proud to feature this 1949 Willys Jeepster. Coined as the first ever crossover vehicle. The Willys is certainly a landmark vehicle on the automotive history, springing from the end of WW2, Jeep trademark owners wasted no time putting their own line out on the market. With the induction of their wagon and truck vehicles, the Willys came in the line-up as an answer to stump the competition. However, gaining no popularity at the time due to an underwhelming amount of low advertisement success, the Willys never gained the notoriety of the public and only 19,000 made it through production between 1948 and 1950. The big reason for it's failure at that time was that it reminded to many of our “now at home G.I's" of the commonly used German vehicles; which decades later became the “Thing" as produced by Volkswagen. Despite the years passed since, ironically enough this generation of Jeeps have become sought after among collectors in the Jeep realm.
This Willys still rightly equipped with the 2.2 liter 4-cylinder referred to as the “Go Devil" packs a punch needed for the “daily driver". Mated only to the 3-speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly through the gears. This Jeep is ready to be enjoyed by any classic car enthusiast!
