For sale is a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible located in our Indianapolis showroom. The 1970 Mercury Cougar appearance changed slightly from the 1969 model with a new front end that featured a pronounced center hood extension and electric shaver style grille setting it apart from the previous year. The XR-7 option could be added on that included more luxurious appointments with a simulated wood-grained dashboard with a full set of black-faced competition instruments and toggle switches, a T-handle center automatic transmission shifter, and leather and vinyl upholstery. This 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible is powered by its rebuilt 351 "Cleveland" CID V8 Engine, backed by a C6 3-speed automatic transmission, and running to a 3.00 geared rear end. This true XR7 originally came equipped with a 351 Cleveland with a 2 barrel carburetor and a FMX transmission, but was swapped out to a 1970 351 Cleveland engine that is topped with a 4 barrel carburetor, "quench heads" and was built to spec and dressed up to as close to a "Boss 351" as possible. The FMX transmission was then replaced with a beefier C6 transmission to hold up to the extra power of the mighty 351. This car was originally sold in California and spent its life there until its current owner purchased and shipped the car here to the Midwest in 2010. This car has won over a 100 trophies including trophies from several Cougar Nationals shows. The car was also featured at several Ford sponsored Lincoln-Mercury shows and also featured on the cover of Super Ford magazine and an American Muscle car calendar. This XR7 is was nicely optioned from the factory with a center console, rare manual roll up windows, power convertible top, and air conditioning (currently not hooked up).
