1984 Cadillac Eldorado

Now available at our brand-new PHILLY showroom is a 1984 Cadillac El Dorado with an ASC convertible conversion. ASC is a coachbuilding company. Coachbuilding companies often marketed to new car dealerships, but they usually did not work for, or in conjunction with the car manufacturer. There were exceptions, however and this car is one of those exceptions. American Sunroof Company (ASC), a company which has converted over 1,000,000 cars, has had official relationships with many car companies. ASC's products are of such high quality that many manufacturers retain them to create convertibles. The volume of convertible sales is low enough that these manufacturers can't justify the cost of tooling up their own factories to make convertibles in-house like they used to. General Motors sold Cadillac El Dorado Convertibles from ASC in the 1984 and 1985 model years, which were sold in Cadillac dealerships. In this case, it was handled in two different ways. Some of them were sold as regular production "factory convertibles." GM handled the logistics of these "factory" conversions and sold the cars to dealers under the RPO system (regular production option). Even though the car was bought from Cadillac directly as a convertible, it was in fact a converted car, and had a placard from the coachbuilder in the doorjamb. You can view this in our photos. In addition to making the car a convertible ASC would also add distinctive styling features to the car to further enhance the look of luxury that buyers of this type vehicle are looking for. This El Dorado has a continental kit installed on the trunk lid. It also has a “Rolls Royse” style grille that lets everyone know that a lot of luxury is heading their way. This car with 68000 original miles came with a standard HT4100 V8 and automatic transmission. It is also equipped with all the equipment that you would expect in a Cadillac. Power brakes and steering, power windows and locks, cruise and telescopic wheel with tilt control are all included. The original interior is in excellent condition showing only minor wear on the driver’s seat. This car runs and drives great and would be an excellent addition to anyone’s collection.
