The Fairlane was introduced by the Dearborn automaker in in 1955 to replace the “Crestline" model name and was the top trim level among Ford sedans above the Mainline and Customline. '56 models like this one featured only subtle exterior changes from '55 but Ford's decision to upgrade the lineup to 12-volt capability opened up a multitude of new convenience options available to buyers. This example is painted in a delightful Seafoam Green/White paintjob with chrome trim everywhere you look. The Black painted steel wheels with chrome center caps are a nice touch and radial tires will help this 2-door sedan handle better than it did new. Under the hood back in 1956 would have been a Y-Block motor but this has been upgraded to a 302 CID V8 “crate engine" that has around 2,000 miles on it since installed according to the sellers of this Fairlane. Several upgrades are present including power steering, power brakes, an MSD ignition and aluminum radiator. Shifting this Ford through the gears is an “AOD" 4-speed automatic transmission that turns the rear wheels through an 8 ¾ inch rear end geared 3.42 for excellent highway performance as well as acceleration. You'll certainly want to cruise the open road for extended periods of time once you see the re-vamped interior of this Club Sedan, starting with leather upholstered “Forest Green" colored seating that has safety belts built in. The dash is in a two-tone color that replicates the exterior of this vehicle and the Classic Instruments gauges fit right in and keep you informed on your fuel level, engine temperature, voltage and oil pressure.
