Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a stunning 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 396. GM has offered the Impala under the Chevrolet division since 1958 and save for a short break from '97-99, the model continues to this day. Since its inception it has been a full sized passenger car originally available in 2 or 4 door layouts. By the mid 1960s despite being Chevrolet's most expensive vehicle, it was the top selling vehicle in America. It outsold the Ford Galaxie and Plymouth Fury. There are plenty of fond memories for those that grew up in the 1960's when these full sized American cars dominated the market and were considered average sized cars. Nowadays these large automobiles would dwarf the average Toyota Camry (and look a lot better doing it). A big car needs a big engine, and this one has got one. Pop the hood of this SS and you'll find the legendary 396 CID "Turbo Jet" Big Block V8. The engine is original to the car and matches the last 6 of the VIN, and the VIN indicates the car to be a true SS. With a 4 barrel carburetor as standard, the SS 396 was rated at 325 Horsepower.
The VIN indicates:
1 - Chevrolet
68 - SS V8
37 - Sport Coupe
6 - Model Year 1966
L - Los Angeles Assembly Plant
162269 - Sequence Number
This big block Impala SS is painted in a great shade of yellow named Lemonwood Yellow. Inside there is an off white vinyl interior that features bucket seats, center console and an auxiliary gauge cluster.
This one has all the goodies just as a luxury cruiser should: Power steering, automatic transmission (rebuilt in 2014), and even Air Conditioning. Perhaps the most recognizable part of an Impala is the running Impala emblem mounted between the rear seats. In '66 it is surrounded by chrome mesh and gives the rear seats more of a bucket look. Recently the Impala has received new bumpers front and rear, underside detail, new tires, battery, exhaust and a rebuilt transmission. The unique color combination sets it apart from the crowd and the car really has a great look sitting on Chevy rally wheels with raised white letter tires. This is a car you'd be proud to take to a car show, take out for a weekend getaway (plenty of room for luggage), or even drive to work on the sunny days (you'll stay cool with the AC on). Located in our St. Louis Showroom, this 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS can be seen including 50+ HD pictures and video at www.GatewayClassicCars.com.
