This big block Chevelle is powered by an LS-5 454 originally under rated at 360 horsepower. Chevrolet would never allow another car in their line up to out power the Corvette. In 1970 Chevy rated the same engine in the Corvette at 390 horsepower. This is the only year it didn't go according to plan. The Chevelle also offered the 450 horsepower LS-6 that wasn't available in the Corvette until 1971. They had something even better , the LS-7. Unfortunately the 465 horse power LS-7 was killed at the last minute due to the de-proliferation program. Eliminating high cost, low production options. So for the first time, the Chevelle was the bad boy for Chevrolet. Even though the LS-6 solid lifter big block was more expensive, it still out sold the less powerful and less expensive LS-5 making it more rare than the LS-6. This 1970 LS-5 Chevelle is upgraded with a 5 speed manual to allow even better cruising on the highway. Painted high gloss black with silver SS stripes and period correct American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, this Chevelle has a look that means business. The body and paint have obviously received countless hours to achieve the smooth finish and straight sheet metal. Some notable items included during the restoration include new weather stripping, new emblems, correct splatter paint for the trunk and factory decals under the hood. The engine received GM aluminum cylinder heads and a GM aluminum intake manifold. This reduces the weight of the front end by roughly 80 pounds and reduces under hood temperatures as well.
