Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a 1949 Mercury Sport Sedan. 1949 introduced Mercury's first Post-War redesign. The '49s featured a "pontoon fender" shape which appeared aerodynamic and differentiated it from the Fords of the time. This new design was a recipe for success and the 49 model sold incredibly well. Coupes, sedans, wagons, and even convertibles were available. Perhaps the most unique is the Sports Sedan, a sleek 4 door which features rearward opening rear doors. Having these "suicide" doors from the factory, almost makes it look custom right out of the box. This sports sedan has the proper 255 CID Flat Head V8 backed by a traditional 3 speed manual transmission which is shifted on the column. In addition, this one is optioned with Overdrive which is activated by pulling a handle under the dash. The dash itself is a beautiful piece with full instrumentation and art-deco gauges like nothing you'd find in a modern car. Interior space is ample with a large bench up front and a large bench in the back. Both front and rear seat occupants get roll down windows and even vent windows front and rear. This would be a great vehicle to load up the family and go to church, out to dinner, or even to drive in a wedding. This Mercury has a lot of style and a lot of class, and it won't be going out of style any time soon.
