For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1946 Chevrolet Pickup that is far from what it once was. This Pick up has been turned into a street terror. Power comes from a 454 that has been built up to LS-6 specs and includes 10.5:1 compression, CompCams 505 lift hydraulic lifter camshaft. The heads have been ported and polished, extreme duty valves, high volume oil pump and March Pulleys. Keeping the engine cool is a breeze with an big aluminum radiator and an electric cooling fan. The transmission is a 700R4 and has been beefed up to handle the added power. It is equipped with all hardened parts to withstand the big block and features a 2,000 rpm stall converter. There is also a custom made driveshaft that has been balanced without using any added weights. The rear is a 12 bolt unit housing 3.73:1 gears with posi-traction and Strange axles. The suspension consist of an independent front suspension with tubular upper control arms and rack and pinion steering. The rear has adjustable coil overs. Braking is issue free thanks to power four wheel disc brakes. The whole build has covered around 200 miles. As you can tell, the theme here is a rat rod. The body is very straight and has no filler. The bed is from a '48 is has wood inserts. It is a sanded primer with some faded logos to finish off the look. If your personal taste requires gloss and shine, this one's ready for a scuff and shoot. Ease of driving is aided by power steering and power brakes. Inside is a tilt wheel and cloth bucket seats. As you can tell form the build details of this hot rod Chevy, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. This is a very well thought out build that has the equipment of much more expensive builds.
