1982 Fiat Spider

Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a cherry little 1982 Fiat 2000 Spider. Fiat released their first Spider model in 1966. This small, lightweight roadster was a direct competitor for cars like the MG B or the Triumph TR6. The Fiat had quite a few items that were technologically more advanced than the British sports cars of the time. All Spiders had coil springs in all four corners, where some competitors had leaf springs. They also had a twin overhead cam four cylinder which was a rev happy and peppy little gem. Displacement changed over the years and by '82 had grown to 2.0 Liters, hence the "2000 Spider" name. Also by '82 fuel injection had been added which was also rather advanced for its time. Where most of its competitors had 4 speed transmissions, the Fiat had a 5 speed manual and optional automatic. This particular 2000 Spider is a well maintained low mileage example with some recent restoration work. With only 47,167 original miles, the car has clearly had an easy life. A good example to start, the car has received a completely new paintjob just to spruce it up back to its original glory. The body is straight and solid and where's the blue paint beautifully. In addition to a fresh exterior finish, the underside has been blasted and coated to preserve the body for years to come. While the paint work was being completed, the mechanicals were also gone through. The fuel and braking systems have been updated as well as the transmission. The result is a beautiful Spider that runs and drives even better than it looks. If you haven't driven a Fiat Spider, you truly are missing out. They has plenty of power, handle like a go kart, and with the top down they have a fun factor that you just can't get with a hard top.
