BACKGROUND: In September 1961, American automotive designer Carroll Shelby wrote to AC asking if they would build him a car modified to accept a V8 engine. AC agreed, provided a suitable engine could be found. Shelby went to Chevrolet to see if they would provide him with engines, but not wanting to add competition to the Corvette they said no. However, Ford wanted a car that could compete with the Corvette and they happened to have a brand new engine which could be used in this endeavor: the Windsor 221 engine – a new lightweight, thin-wall cast small-block V8. This particular AC Cobra replica is carrying a rebuilt Boss 351 power plant and is being driven by a Tremex 5-speed transmission. It only has 1,500 miles on it since the rebuild. The rear end is a Ford 9-inch and it has a 3.50 gear ratio. The exterior and interior condition of this AC Cobra replica is in very good condition. On a show car quality scale, with 10 being perfect, this one is between 7.5 and 8.0.
