1964 Ford Thunderbird

Up for sale in the Tampa showroom is this gorgeous 1964 Ford Thunderbird. For 1964 the Thunderbird for sale was restyled and restored in favor of a more squared-off appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car from the side or rear. Hinting at its roots in the previous generation Thunderbird that it evolved from, the new model retained a similar grille design with dual headlights. The surrounding chrome is in place and is in phenomenal condition. As before, the new Thunderbird continued to be offered in hardtop, convertible, and Landau versions. This particular one coming in as the elusive convertible version, and yes it works and works properly. 60 Seconds going up, 60 seconds going down, and even through brand new hydraulic system, the restorer even placed the brand new matching spare in factory location. The Second to Fourth Generation Thunderbird convertibles were similar in design to the Lincoln convertible of the time and borrowed from earlier Ford hardtop/convertible designs. While these Thunderbird models had a true convertible soft top, the top was lowered to stow in the forward trunk area. This design made more available trunk space when the top was down. The 300 horsepower 390 cu in (6.4 L) FE big block V8 continued as the standard engine for the Thunderbird as it was one of the most "sturdy" and reliable big blocks on the market in that day. It was paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission and that is backed by a Ford 9 inch rear end with a wonderful highway cruiser gear.
