Description
Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this 2004 Chevrolet SSR!
A Factory Custom Hot Rod
The SSR (Super Sport Roadster) proved that Detroit still had imagination. It looked like a 1950s Chevy truck and a '32 Ford roadster had a child - all steel curves, flared fenders, and a chopped stance right from the custom car world. But this one came with a factory warranty and A/C. Inspired by Chevy's 1947-1953 Advance Design pickups, the SSR featured deep-draw stamped steel panels and was hand-assembled at GM's Lansing Craft Center, home to Corvette prototypes and other low-volume builds.
A Convertible Pickup
The SSR was the first modern retractable hardtop pickup. At the touch of a button, its two-piece power top folded neatly into a hidden compartment - a mechanical ballet of electric motors and hydraulics that turned a truck into a roadster in 30 seconds.
Power and Style
This SSR packs a 5.3-liter V8 with automatic transmission, delivering a throaty exhaust note and effortless torque. It's quick, comfortable, and pure Chevy muscle with style.
Inside, the cabin feels like a sports car: leather bucket seats, stainless trim, and a Bel Air-inspired waterfall console. Equipment includes air conditioning, Bose audio, power seats, locks, windows, tilt steering, and cruise control.
Ownership and Condition
This example shows 16,642 documented miles with a clean Carfax and three-owner history. The current owner proudly states it's never seen rain under his care. Finished in bright Red over a Black interior, it's gleaming, pampered, and beautifully kept.
Why It Matters
The SSR is one of the few factory-built hot rods ever made - unique panels, bold design, and modern reliability. A 2003 Indy 500 Pace Car and now a rising collectible, it remains daring, distinctive, and genuinely fun to own.
