Description

Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to digitally present this stunning 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL, a classic icon that has been thoughtfully reimagined with modern performance upgrades while maintaining its timeless style.

Originally a C-code 289 car, this Fairlane has undergone an impressive transformation and now packs serious muscle under the hood. Powering this build is a Ford FE 390 C7ME-A casting, bored .030 over and paired with a Scat rotating assembly, steel crank, H-beam rods, and forged pistons. The result is a 431 cubic inch powerhouse with a 9.2:1 compression ratio. Performance enhancements include a Comp roller cam and lifters, Comp roller shaft rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads (72cc), Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, and a Holley 4150 750 CFM double pumper carburetor. Ignition is handled by an MSD Pro-billet distributor, Digital 6AL controller, and MSD coil, ensuring reliable spark and top-end performance.

Backing the big block is a stout C-6 automatic transmission with a shift kit, paired with a Hurst ratchet shifter and a TCI Sizzler 2100 rpm stall converter. Power is delivered to the pavement via a Moser sheet metal rear axle housing with Ford 9-inch 4.11 gears, 35-spline axles, and a spool.

The chassis has been extensively upgraded with rebuilt front and rear suspension, new springs, and SPC tubular upper control arms with the classic 1-inch Shelby drop. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes with an emergency brake, Wilwood master cylinder, and adjustable proportioning valve. Additional refinements include a new fuel pump, braided fuel lines, and a coated fuel tank.

Visually, this Fairlane is a knockout. The body was stripped to bare metal before being refinished in Ford Performance White, accented by a Crites 427 fiberglass hood with a molded scoop. New front and rear bumpers shine brilliantly, while Cragar S/S wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires (including a spare) complete the muscle-era stance. The interior benefits from new carpet, sound deadener, a full rewire, and Auto Meter gauges for accurate monitoring.

This 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL blends classic styling with modern performance in a way that few builds can match. From its roaring 431 FE stroker to its Wilwood braking system and crisp white finish, this Fairlane is both a showstopper and a thrill to drive.

This 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL can be seen at the O'Fallon, IL showroom. Be sure to visit GatewayClassicCars.com to view 100+ HD pictures and an HD video of this incredible build.
