This one is unique for several reasons, and it's a beautiful example of the "Z" series from Datsun, they were entering the sports car arena beginning in 1970 with the 240Z. The 1978 280Z models were the most refined of all the Z-series cars to that point. This year, the manual five-speed transmission was first available in North America-bound cars. Very few 5-spds were ordered from the factory; most were 4-spds. This was also the first and only year for black being an available color on Z-cars. They were known as "Black Pearl Edition" models. Additional refinements can be found in convenience options like air conditioning. 1978 was the first year that it was an integrated system, not a "hang-on" type installation. Sharp-eyed Z-car enthusiasts will immediately notice the factory aluminum road wheels, considered to be the single rarest option for these cars. These wheels, like the rest of this stunning automobile, were restored to a condition that is as new as could be done.
