VW expanded on this success with a personalized, pricier coupe styled by Italy's Carrozzeria Ghia. The car was an instant classic with svelte styling that attracted style conscious buyers in a way the Beetle never could. This 1964 Karmann Ghia is a rust-free, great driving example. It’s been considerably upgraded. Power is now provided by a ‘hi-po’ 1968cc flat four. This little thing MOVES. No “adequate” economically focused, air-cooled, VW power here. This Karmann Ghia screams thanks to the four-into-one racing header and stinger pipe. Everyone will hear you coming and going. When it’s time to reign in the speed, this car brakes with confidence, thanks to four-wheel disk brakes.
