1953 Kaiser Manhattan

View Description

The Kaiser-Frazer Corporation began in 1945, when it was formed as a joint venture between Henry J. Kaiser and Joseph W. Frazer. Their first vehicles rolled off the line in Willow Run Michigan in less than a year after the company was formed. Initially, production numbers were good, but Kaiser-Frazer struggled to keep up with the larger, more established auto manufacturers. The interior is also very original in appearance, and features the optional 'Bambu' treatment, with dash trim and other trim areas sporting the bamboo-like surface treatment. This Manhattan features what appears to be its original drivetrain, consisting of a 226 CID flathead 6-cylinder engine and a GM Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Inside, the interior looks original, with the two-tone exterior color scheme carried over. 'Bambu' vinyl-trimmed bench seats have cloth inserts, and still have plenty of life left. An...
