The Camaro/Mustang rivalry began in 1967 with the introduction of the Camaro by General Motors which was the greatest threat to the Mustang. The performance of Ford-s 289 and 390 engines was not up to par with the Camaro-s small block and big block V8s so Ford started production of the 428 Cobra Cobra Jet Ford Windsor and a Ford Boss engine. The Boss CID Hi-Po engine was created by combining a Ford Windsor 302 cubic inch engine block with large valve Ford Cleveland 351 cubic inch cylinder heads. With this the Boss was born, and with production of the first generation of the Boss lasting only for the 1969 and 1970 model years this would become one of the rarest of the special edition Mustangs to date. The Boss Mustang was produced from 1969-1970, then reintroduced from 2012-2013. The name Boss Mustang came when designer Larry Shinoda, a former GM employee, was asked what project he was working on, the project was a secret so he answered with 'the Boss's car. ' On the 1970 Boss Mustang 'hockey stick' stripes were added, which started on top of the hood and made its way down the side. Under the hood is the very sought after 302 CID V8 that doesn't disappoint when it comes to performance and for more fun is the 4 speed manual transmission to complete the Boss package. Ford engineers vamped the Boss's suspension to meet then-Boss Semon 'Bunkie' Knudsen's vision to 'built absolutely the best-handling street car available on the American market. The rear end is a strong 9 inch Ford that is ready for what you dish out. At the top of this V8 is a 4 barrel Carburetor on a nice aluminum intake. There is a lot of billet aluminum on the front of the engine to support the alternator and power steering system. This big block is decked out with chrome valve covers and headers. They breathe through a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. In front of this engine is an upgraded aluminum radiator, polished power steering components and the factory air cleaner to make the engine compartment clean and cohesive. Upon glancing at the Mustang, it-s very apparent that plenty of hours were spent on painting the red paint and restoring the chrome. The interior is a nice black that matches the exterior tastefully. The Ford Mustang was an icon of the 1960s and as it transitioned into the following decade many Mustang enthusiasts believe it truly peaked in style and muscle. The 69-70 Fastback body style was unique in its styling and, as Mustang buyers had come to expect, was offered in several trim levels and drivetrain choices. Near the top of these choices was the Mach 1 and the 428 Cobra Cobra Jet engine.
