The Karman ghia was a 2+2 promoted as a sports car with a coupe and convertible model manufactured until 1974. Based on the classic Type 1 beetle chassis with styling by Italian designer Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and hand built bodies by coachbuilder Karmann. It would go on to be a world-wide success with close to half a million cars built over its life spanning over 3 decades. This Karman Ghia has gone through a complete customization from the paint to the interior giving this rear engine drop top a one-off look. The model designated Type 14 was successful right from the start in spite of its higher retail price. The price was largely due to the fact that the body panels were butt welded and hand shaped using English Pewter in a time consuming processed reserved for higher end automobiles. The results were a beautiful merging of Italian design and German engineering in a 2 seat coupe like nothing before.
