Looking to expand its clientele, Pontiac decided to up the ante a bit by offering an F-Body with an optional Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package. By 1969 the Pontiac Firebird was a mere two years old and had debuted to moderate success. Ten years later the Trans Am had a large fan base. The front end was restyled for 1979, which also marked the 10th anniversary of the Trans Am. The only option on these cars was the engine (the 400 was not certified for California, nor was cruise control available with it), which dictated the transmission and the gear ratio (3. 23 on the 400 cars, 2. 73 on the cars with the Oldsmobile-produced 403 engine and the TH350 automatic transmission). Powering this Trans Am is the Oldsmobile V8 with a TH350 Automatic Transmission.
