Japanese automaker Mazda started installing convertible roofs on their second-generation RX-7's in 1988, Critically, they were developed in-house unlike much of the competition that outsourced the work. Mazda managed to incorporate both a 'Targa Top' style roof and a traditional convertible into their design by manufacturing a removable rigid panel over the passenger cabin that transitions into a fabric soft top that can be raised and lowered electronically. Painted in 'Brilliant Black', this Japanese sports car is stealthy and eagle-eyed enthusiasts will note that it is also a 'Series 5' model meaning it was part of the RX-7 facelift that featured body colored moldings. Mazdas from this era are famous for the 'Rotary' engines and this car has the naturally aspirated 13B 2-rotor Wankel with a displacement of 1. 3l and a factory power output of 160hp.
