1962 Chevrolet Corvair

View Description

This little Corvair has just 98,000 miles and still has the original engine and transmission. Painted in white and nicely complimented by a black soft top and red vinyl interior. White walls and hubcaps give the car an original look. Powering this little Corvair is the original flat 6 air cooled engine and is mated to a 2 speed automatic. Both front and rear suspensions are independent for a nice ride. 1962 is the first year for the convertible and it was a hit. Other models went as far as station wagons, vans and trucks. It was clear that the coupe and convertible were much more successful. This '62 has recently been fitted with new wiring for the headlights, new seat upholstery and a new...

1966 Chevrolet Corvair

View Description

The Corvair from Chevrolet came at a time when America's auto makers were producing one size of vehicle, large. Seeing the trend start to unfold in the late 50's towards smaller more economical imports, Chevrolet jumped on the design bandwagon to bring their own flavor to the lineup. Built to compete against foreign competitors such as the Type 3 VW and Fiat 1300 the Corvair also held its own with domestic offerings such as the Ford Falcon and Plymouth Valiant. In 1960 the first Corvairs were well received by the press and the general public for its engineering, style, and performance. Providing a plethora of firsts for GM such as uni body construction, 4 wheel independent suspension, and air cooled flat 6 cylinder engine it's easy to see why this was the Motor trend car of the year for 1960. The Corvair we have in our Orlando showroom is a wonderfully restored example of the Monza version. Packing a 110hp air cooled flat 6 engine in the back the Corvair was hailed at the 'poor man's Porsche', the performance...

1962 Chevrolet Corvair

View Description

The 1960 Corvair 569 and 769 series four-door sedans were conceived as thrift cars offering few amenities in order to keep the price competitive. Powered by the Turbo Air 6 engine 80 hp (60 kW; 81 PS) and Three-speed manual or optional extra cost two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, the Corvair was designed to have comparable acceleration to the six-cylinder full-size Chevrolet Biscayne. The Corvair's unique design included the 'Quadri-Flex' independent suspension and 'Unipack Power Team' of engine, transmission and rear axle combined into a single unit. Similar to designs of European cars such as Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and others, 'Quadri-Flex' used coil springs at all four wheels with independent rear suspension arms incorporated at the rear. Following the success of the upmarket 'Mr. and Mrs. Monza' styling concept cars at the 1960 Chicago Auto Show, management approved the neatly appointed bucket-seat DeLuxe trim of the 900 series Monza as a two door club coupe only. This model began arriving at showroom floors in April 1960. Despite their late...
