Rolling into the 60s Chevrolet was looking to shake up the market a bit and introduced the Corvair. A car that to this day is the only mass produced American made car with a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. Debuting in 1960 the Corvair would see 2 generations spanning 9 years of production until 1969. Here we have a very nice '65 Model. The Cypress Green paint looks very good, as it should since she was repainted within the last couple of years. The Fawn colored vinyl interior is also in great shape. Under the hood is a complete rebuilt Flat 6-cylinder engine mated to a 2-speed automatic transmission. This car has been subjected to a massive restoration. Clearly, one of the most distinctive automobiles of the 1960s is Chevrolet's Corvair, a compact model with four-wheel independent suspension and a rear-mounted, horizontally opposed, air-cooled six-cylinder engine for power. The name Corvair was a contraction of Bel Air and Corvette. The name was selected by Ed Cole, who guided the early development of the car. It was appropriate because the Corvair in some forms could be a competent performer; it even appeared in some print advertising with a Corvette.
