BACKGROUND: During its 50-year production that spanned 10 generations, its competitors ranged from the Lincoln Mark series to the Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe. The name Eldorado is the combination of two Spanish words which translate to 'the golden one. ' The seventh generation of the Eldorado ran from 1971 to 1978. In 1971 the Eldorado underwent many changes and upgrades. The overall length of the car grew 2 inches, but the wheel base grew 6 inches. Fender skirts returned and the rear quarter windows were removed. In their place were fixed 'opera' styled windows that were intended to mask the widened C-pillar.

The 1970 F85 and Cutlass was available in seven body styles, three of which were coupes: a pillared fastback Sports Coupe (in F85, Cutlass S or 4-4-2 trims), an hardtop fastback Holiday Coupe (Cutlass S and 4-4-2 only), and finally a more formal notchback Holiday Coupe, only offered in Cutlass Supreme trim. This practice was similar to that followed at the time by Ford and Mercury for their intermediates, which were offered in both notchback and fastback coupes starting in 1968. Also available were a four-door hardtop Holiday Sedan, a four-door Town Sedan, a convertible, a flat-top station wagon called the Custom Cruiser, as well as the fancier Vista-Cruiser station wagon. Counting all trim level and body style permutations, Oldsmobile's 1970 lineup included 15 different intermediate models.

Though this example is not the 350 Olds Rallye option, it still comes in the exclusive Seabring Yellow paint and stout 350 CID Olds performance motor pushing power through a M38 Hydromatic auto transmission. This Cougar is painted a bright Aqua blue with white landau vinyl top and white interior. This car is hard to ignore and easy to find in any parking lot. The striking Aqua blue paint is so smooth that the shine seems three inches deep and the white contrast nicely. This 1973 Cougar is not just good looking but with the 351 Cleveland under the hood this Cougar can still chase down a couple of Mustangs for lunch. When I was going over this car before doing this description, I was very impress with how tidy it is. Under the hood, the interior, lets face it this car is clean! The white high back bucket seat up front are clean and in great shape, the center console is in place and looks great and even the eight-track player is still in the dash. Now you are wondering if that toys in the attic eight track still works or is it Charlie Pride? Well time to start digging through the hall...
