Chevrolet did just that in RPO LT1 Corvettes like the one offered here. The LT1 was the latest iteration of the venerated small-block V-8 that had shown up in 1955, and this 350 CI powerplant would go down in history as one of the most desirable packages to own. In 1970 only, the engine received a factory rating of 370 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque, due in large part to 11:1 compression, a large 780-Cfm Holley carb, a solid-lifter cam outfit, and transistorized ignition. The internals was all heavy-duty, with a forged crank and 4-bolt mains. The company sold 1,287 LT1 Corvettes, a scarcity due in part to a short production season and the high $447. 60 cost, more than $140 above the price of a new 454.
