The consignor states this piece of Ford history, is a 3-owner example, which had been completely redone in 1963, by the previous owner when he bought the car - selling it in 2015 to the current owner. The previous owner was a very much hands-on gentleman - as he did the restoration on many cars - this being his favorite! He updated the engine by installing a 1946 Flat Head V-8 adding a whopping 30 more horses - and retained the paperwork and warranty card! The car was originally Green, and was repainted in Red. The Ford Thunderbird began life in February 1953 in direct response to Chevrolet's new sports car, the Corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before.
