Chrysler designers were given free rein to design a 30s style hot rod roadster to follow up the show stopping Dodge Viper. Chip Foose helped with the design by drawing up a coupe with similar proportions. Chysler's guys preferred a roadster so they chopped the top off that design and ended up with an open wheel, open top design that has since become immediately recognizable. Chrysler took this all new body design and stuffed in a 3. 5 Liter V6 which made comparable power and torque figures to their V8 engines of the time. Power was transferred via a 'torque tube' to a rear mounted transmission which helped with weight distribution. The later cars used an aluminum version of the 3. 5L which also helped with weight. The majority of the chassis was aluminum as well to keep the weight down to improve performance both in a straight line and in the twistys. 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds was no problem as well as a 125+ mph top speed. The Roadrunner was basically untouched from 71 with minor changes like marker lights and bumper guards. The GTX was no longer it-s own line of car but was the top of the line trim package in 72. With only 672 models sold from 72 thru 74 this real deal 440 GTX is an extremely rare car. Though it does not have the 440 that it left the factory with no one will be the wiser. With a rather fresh build this 440 is ready for that next adventure, rather that be to the grocery store for some milk or that far away carshow either way you will are going to get noticed when you arrive. The Plymouth Prowler was a concept car that the now Famous Chip Foose designed while he was at the Art center college of Design. It would be the follow up to the show stopping Viper from the year before. Its retro styling has been raved about by critics and enthusiasts alike since its inception. The only thing people did not like where the -cheap- looking plastic bumpers. This 2001 Prowler has taken care of that by removing them all together. The front bumperettes have been deleted giving the front end a much more aggressive look while staying true to that original hot rod inspired design. The rear end has had a similar treatment performed with the bumper gone the rear belly pan was left exposed. The solution was to put an aftermarket one and paint it to match the car. The result was one of the cleanest looking prowlers I have seen. The Harley Davidson emblems are great added touch and add to the mystique of this ultra clean retro rod. This is a great way to enjoy what appears to be a Road Runner, but using the less expensive Satellite model. Starting with a clean, rust-free Arizona car and the epic 340 block, a trip to the Machine shop, the engine got all new aluminum heads, intake, water pump, etc. To top it all off, a Holley three deuce set-up sends the fuel mixture to all eight forged pistons pushing forged CNC rods. Stainless steel headers run the gases through a pair of Magnaflow mufflers. A Champion four-row radiator keeps the engine temp where it needs to be, engine and transmission oil coolers do their jobs well. The 727 tranny houses a 3200 stall converter, sending the power to a 3. 56 posi rear axle. The car stops reliably every time thanks to the four wheel disc brake set-up.
