Many will recall the LS-6 from the muscle car era that powered Chevelles and Corvettes. These were some of the most powerful engines offered in 1970-1971. GM had to make sure that the new LS6 would live up to its reputation. In doing so GM gave the new LS6 a high lift camshaft, a redline that goes up to 6,500 rpm vs. the 6,000 rpm redline for the standard Corvette. The 1970's was a beginning of a new era of cars. The bigger the better was the mantra, from bodies and engines to interiors. This one was no exception. The difference being the custom paint and wheels that were applied. 245/40/20 Vogue white wall tires are wrapped around 20 inch Boss Motorsports wheels. This isn't your typical Trans Am. This one is far from stock and the list of upgrades goes on and on. Powering this 1996 Pontiac WS6 Trans Am is a 450 horsepower 350 cubic inch LT1. In order to achieve this much horsepower there was need for some serious attention. A custom grind roller camshaft from Competition Cams with. 610 lift and 232 duration was used, Competition Cams roller lifters and rockers, GM 643 heads that were heavily ported and Machined by Lloyd Elliot of Epotworks, Ferrea valves, Bee Hive high lift springs, new seats, 5 angle valve job and High Tech hardened push rods. The intake has also been ported and uses a billet aluminum 58mm throttle body. Spark comes from a GM Opti Spark distributor, GM coil and 8mm plug wires. Fuel is injected by 30 lb Accel injectors. The bottom end was inspected, cleaned up and fitted with new rings and bearings. Exhausting all of this fuel and air is accomplished by thermal ceramic coated Hooker long tube headers through custom 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust back to a set of Flowmaster 3 chamber mufflers with QTP 3 inch electric cut outs.
