1981 was a year of first for the Corvette. Not only was this the first year for Corvettes to be produced at two factories but it was also the first year for the now historic Bowling Green plant. The STL plant cars were only available in solid colors while the new revolutionary bowling green plant had the capability to paint them two tone, a rather extravagant option for a production car in 1981. This beauty has been well maintained with the paint looking as if it just rolled out of St Louis. With the odometer showing a mere 2695 actual miles this beauty has lived a pampered life. The bright red paint bring out the lines of the 81 nicely. Under that long hood is the classic small block Chevy that came in the car backed by the original Turbo 350 Hydramatic transmission. This piece of automotive history has been owned by the same person for the last 40 years. Pretty impressive to say the least, considering many of us have a hard time keeping a car more than 4 years. When the owner bought the car it was in good shape, but he wanted to be sure, so soon after purchasing it, he took it completely apart. The rear panel below the trunk was replaced, and then the car was painted in deep gloss black paint and reassembled. There is no body filler (bondo) or rust in this car per the owner. The original 85 HP flat head V8 was freshened up and reinstalled. The interior is by Labaron Bonney and the wood grain dash is in excellent condition. The AM radio works, but with it being the original unit, you may reach your destination, before the tubes warm up. This completely restored 56 Chevy is definitely one of a kind. While many 3100s fell to the wayside as shop trucks or farm trucks few have survived to this day and are still in running and driving shape. This 3100 is one of a few trucks in tip-top showroom shape and the attention to detail is all there. Shes pushed by a rumbling 305 CID v8 putting the power down through a turbo 350C transmission with an electronically controlled lock-up converter. The side exit exhausts give a great tone for rolling down the road and also allow you to hear the lopey idle of each cylinder bank. A 1972 12 bolt rear end transfers that power to the pavement with 3:73 gears and a front end disc brake conversion stops this beast in a jiffy.
