1981 was a year of first for the Corvette. Not only was this the first year for Corvettes to be produced at two factories but it was also the first year for the now historic Bowling Green plant. The STL plant cars were only available in solid colors while the new revolutionary bowling green plant had the capability to paint them two tone, a rather extravagant option for a production car in 1981. This beauty has been well maintained with the paint looking as if it just rolled out of Bowling Green. With the odometer showing a mere 45k and change this beauty has lived a pampered life. The coveted two tone silver paint bring out the lines of the 81 nicely while the dark gray on the hood only makes it appear that much longer. Under that long hood is the classic small block Chevy that came in the car backed by the original turbo hydromatic transmission. The t tops are in excellent condition and have the mirror look which makes the silver paint look that much nicer. Take them off and the wind will be blowing through hair in no time. The 74 Corvette was the first year for all rubber bumpers all around. Gone were the now infamous chrome bumpers of the early C3's but the new heavily sloped rear was an instant success and a staggering 37000 Corvette's were sold that year. Although HP was down you could still get a fairly potent LS4 Big block putting out around 270 ponies but a ground pounding 380 FTLB turning the Corvette into a true tire shredder. This 74 was lucky enough to have one of those elusive LS4's when it left the factory. Somewhere along the way that motor was taken out and now when the Stingray hood is tilted forward a completely different animal is now lurking under the hood. It's still a big block but this one has had a little work done to it. Bored out to a massive 468 CID this beast has the power to put you back in the seat and keep you there. The Turbo 400 transmission feels strong and with firm positive up shifts and no problem going into any gear. 1978 would mark the 25th anniversary for America-s beloved supercar. The 78 Corvette as with all C3-was originally designed after the Mako Shark II Concept. It was an instant hit and has become one of the best selling longest running models to date. This 78 has switched hands 4 times with one of those switches being back to the second owner. The white paint is slick and shows off the car nicely while the like new wheels add to the flare. The radial tires are in excellent shape and provide a smooth ride when cruising but are also capable of handling the higher speeds. The Bright Yellow paint just pops on this car, and has extra with the addition of custom flames. Beware of the beast flying on the hood, as the Dragon might hit you with flames. Finishing off the awesome look of the exterior is set of 17 inch 2 piece forged HRE wheels. The Corvette powered by its 5. 7L LS1 V8 engine and is backed by a 6 spd manual transmission. 1978 marked the 25th anniversary for America-s supercar. Starting originally as a little roadster with a small 6-cylinder engine and looking like an upside-down bathtub no one back in 53 had any idea how this car would change the sports car market. This 78 is a fitting example of one of the lower production dark blue metallic cars for that year. The paint is base coat clear coat and looks strikingly good on the car. Flip the hood forward and will see a very clean engine bay with the original motor, that was reworked, siting right in place. With the bottom end completely gone thru and put back together with all new parts it runs smoother than anyone I have been in. Bored. 030 over the 355 CID gives the car quite a bit more bottom end grunt. With a set of Keith Black pistons, slightly larger cam, and a freshened up set of heads, this small block is putting out way more power than original. Of course, more power more heat so the cooling system was completely overhauled ensuring that the freshly built motor would last for years to come.
