The Pontiac nameplate has long been synonymous with styling, performance, and youth. This idea dates as far back at the mid-1960s when then Pontiac engineer and executive John DeLorean developed the GTO. Through the 60's Pontiac's image as a fun and powerful car company was solidified with other models like the Firebird, Trans Am, Grand Prix and Catalina 2+2. The G6 debuted for the 2005 model year as the replacement for the Grand Am that was Pontiacs very popular midsize car since the '70s. Modern styling and a little help from Oprah Winfrey made the new Pontiac a very successful car and pop culture icon! 'You get a car, and you get a car! ' In 2006 the G6 was offered as a coupe and retractable convertible which proved to be a welcome addition to the sedan.
