The year was 1972 when a Custom body shop in Chicago, Illinois was approached by suburban resident and original owner about customizing his low mileage '68 Fleetwood with only 68,000 at the time. In the 1972 June issue of Playboy Magazine was a black, six-wheeled stretch Cadillac Coupe that he was inquiring about customizing his own Cadillac into. The designer and proprietor of the shop was a retired General Motors concept clay modeler and was enthusiastic about the project estimating that the cost to design and build the stretch coupe would cost around $32,000 ($153,195. 57 in today's dollars). He agreed to the construction project understanding that it would take upwards three years to complete. Five years later in 1977, the second known Six Wheeled Cadillac Stretch Coupe was completed at the projected cost of $25,570 to the highest build standards retaining ALL original factory Cadillac components.
