The Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. The name, which was DeLorean's idea, was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, the successful race car. It is an Italian abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato. Originally built in the last week of December of 1970, this awesome GTO has been restored to its former glory. The 400 CID engine has been gone through, by professional engine builder Jack Boyd, it retains the stock intake and exhaust manifolds. Dyno results put this power, plant at 330 hp with 450+ ft-lbs of torque. Dyno documentation is available upon request. The engine has less than 100 miles since the rebuild, and it is mated to the factory turbo 400 automatic. Power is then sent to a 3. 23 geared rear end. A -Humbler Exhaust System- has been added to the GTO. This is a limited factory option that was offered for a short time in late 1970 and early -71.
